A couple weeks ago I ran a 3-hour race with some of my friends. This was the first distance I had done over a half marathon. It was a trail run on a 1-km loop through the woods in the Oak Hill neighborhood of Austin, TX. I ended up running 29 loops / 18 miles which is the farthest I’ve ever run in 1 shot. This was a essentially a stepping stone for me to go from half marathon to full marathon. I’ll be running my first full marathon in February.
While I came in 9th, my friends and Robert and Austin (both vegans as well) dominated their time slots. Robert won the 3-hour and set the course record. Austin won the 24-hour. You can read his account of it here: http://solidpt.wordpress.com/2012/12/22/the-run-like-the-wind-2012-outcome/
Here’s a video that Austin’s girlfriend Christy filmed and put together for it:
Hung out with my buddy Big Bald Mike today. Here’s a little update on how he’s doing with his fitness and weightloss:
Hit up the farmer’s market today for some tomatoes, green onions, basil, red peppers and kombucha. My friend Janna and I decided on a whim to climb a nearby tree. While I was up there I noticed some of the limbs were conducive to dips, so I did a few exercises and dismounted. Just wanted to remind y’all that you can get in a workout anywhere, any time.

Been too long since I’ve done a post here. Currently training for a 3-hour timed race (will be about 3/4 marathon for me). Ran 14.5 miles last weekend which is the most I’ve ever done. Lately I’ve been doing mostly running with a little yoga, some weightlifting and bar work here and there. Been enjoying life a lot but not training super hard or eating very big. I armwrestled Robert Cheeke a while back. Here’s a picture. I didn’t win though. Be well.
My friend Big Bald Mike gave a speech at an Animal Sanctuary event this past weekend and I was there to get it on film. This is his story of going from drug addict to vegan athlete and animal rights advocate.
My friend Mike has been on a mission to be the first human to lift the Mark Henry dumbbell out of its box:

Here is a video of some of his training and philosophy:
