This Week’s Grocery Haul

Here’s a look at what I brought home from the grocery store this past weekend.

Just wanted to show you what a typical (or actually really good in this case) grocery haul looks like for me.  So if you’re looking for some ideas whether you’re veg*n, omnivore, paleo or something else I picked up some pretty decent stuff you might want to try out.

Have you picked up anything cool from the grocery store lately?  Feel free to share in the comments.  I am definitely looking for winter produce ideas when the fruit availability isn’t as good.

  1. ~YUM~ So jealous over the Korean Pears! I have never tried them and want to badly! I did find avocados for $1 each and bought a ton of them! Also, pears, bananas, apples (free from our elderly neighbor; just adore her!), spinach and romaine. Hitting the green smoothies like crazy lately! Off to eat a banana right now!

  2. Those asian pears look great, I’ll have to look for those. You eat a case of bananas in a week? And 10 mangoes? I love mangoes, but when they are in season I eat about 1/2 of one each day.

    I love your grocery video – great idea!

    Hi, Ben, Great post! I live in Austin, too. Will you share which Asian market you use?

    • Hi Camille, I generally got to M.T. on North Lamar. It’s definitely the biggest in town as far as I know. Do you know of any in south or east Austin? Would be cool to have something a shorter distance away.

    Hey. Great video. Sorry if I’m slow on the uptake but what does a typical day of meals look like for you. I noticed your haul didn’t include grains or many veggies to be cooked mostly raw eating types.

    • Hi Brittany. Right now I am in the middle of a 5-month raw food experiment. So I am typically eating about 3,300 calories of fruit per day and then 1-3 heads of leafy greens (lettuce, kale, spinach, celery etc.) per day. A lot of that is in green smoothies to make it easier to pack in all the volume. Right now in June my staples of in season fruit are mangoes, bananas and pineapples. So a green smoothie meal might be 8 bananas, half a papaya and half a head of dino kale. Otherwise I’ll do say 10 mangoes or 2 pineapples for a meal, or a salad with lettuce, cucumber, tomato and a fruit-based or avocado-based dressing homemade dressing. I realize that most vegans don’t eat that way, but I’m seeing lots of benefits from raw foods.
